Magic of Science Fair FAQs

I have a project idea, what do I do?!? Tell us about your science fair project on the Science Fair Submission Form and send to us by March 31, 2019. You’ll download the submission and student instructions form here and email it to info@apgdiscovery.com by March 31, 2019.

When is my project due? Your project idea form is due on March 31, but your science fair project doesn’t have to be finished until you show up on May 4, 2019.

Speaking of which, where is the Magic of Science Fair and when do I show up? Arrive at Aberdeen Proving Ground for set-up of your project by 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019. We’ll be posting a map and directions to the exact location at Aberdeen Proving Ground here soon.

What is the Magic of Science Fair and what is the Discovery Fest? The Magic of Science Fair is an annual event hosted by the APG Discovery Center and held in conjunction with the Aberdeen Proving Ground Discovery Fest, which is an all-day (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) family fun festival event at APG.  There will be activities for kids, exhibits by APG technical staff, displays of Army equipment, job fair, food, music.

Is there a cost to entering a project in the Science Fair or for attending the Discovery Fest? No, the Science Fair is free to enter and the Discovery Fest has no admission fees. Come one and all!!

Will I win a prize for my science project? Yes! Six VERY nice prizes will be awarded to each winner and runner up in grade 6, 7, and 8. Click here to see the prizes!

How long does the Science Fair last? You’ll set up at 8 a.m. Then Science Fair judges will begin talking with you about your project at 9 a.m. They will judge your project based on the criteria found in the Submission Form. You’ll have lunch around noon and then an award ceremony with prize winners announced at 3 p.m. You’ll be free to visit exhibits at the Discovery Fest after lunch and before the awards ceremony.

How will my project be judged? You can find the judging criteria in the student instructions found in the submission and student instructions form.

How do I get onto APG and where do I go? Your parents or chaperone will show a valid drivers license at the gate for entry to APG on May 4. No special visitors pass is needed. The Discovery Fest will be held in the CECOM complex. A map of the exact location will be provided and linked here when it is available.
